1. Compound Identification
2. What Is Epitalon
Epitalon is a short synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, also written as AEDG. It was designed by the Khavinson research group in Russia as a synthetic version of a peptide associated with the pineal gland. It carries CAS number 307297-39-8 and the molecular formula C14H22N4O9, with a molecular weight of 390.3 g/mol, making it one of the smallest peptides in this encyclopedia.
Epitalon is studied in longevity and gene-expression research models. It is supplied as a lyophilized powder for laboratory reconstitution.
3. Research Background
Epitalon grew out of decades of Russian peptide-bioregulator research. A 2020 study by Khavinson and colleagues in Molecules reported that the AEDG peptide stimulates gene expression and protein synthesis in a model system (PubMed 32019204).
A 2025 overview by Araj and colleagues in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences summarized Epitalon’s reported bioactivity (PubMed 40141333), and a 2025 study by Al-Dulaimi and colleagues in Biogerontology examined its reported effect on telomere length in human cell lines (PubMed 40908429). The research base is preclinical and concentrated in a small number of groups.
4. Mechanism of Action
In research models, Epitalon is studied for effects on telomerase activity and telomere length in cell systems, along with effects on gene expression connected to the pineal-gland and circadian research it grew out of. The proposed mechanisms center on gene regulation rather than receptor agonism.
This places Epitalon in the longevity-research category, apart from the hormone-axis and melanocortin groups. It is often studied alongside other small bioregulator peptides. For current findings, search PubMed directly.
5. Storage and Stability
Lyophilized Epitalon is generally stored at -20°C for long-term holding, with stability reported around 24 months. Refrigeration at 2°C to 8°C suits shorter windows, away from light and moisture. Small peptides like this still benefit from careful handling.
The lot-specific Certificate of Analysis is the authoritative reference for a given batch.
6. Handling and Solubility Notes (Laboratory Context)
Reconstitution means returning a lyophilized compound to solution. This page gives no preparation procedure: solvent, concentration and handling steps belong to the methodology of the study being reproduced, not to a compound reference. Epitalon is handled as aqueous-soluble material.
Lyophilized material is hygroscopic, so a sealed container is allowed to reach ambient temperature before it is opened. Solubility and water-content figures for a given lot appear on its Certificate of Analysis.
7. Quality Considerations for Research
Identity and purity of research-grade Epitalon are established analytically, by HPLC with mass spectrometric confirmation of the expected mass. Verified purity is documented per lot on the Certificate of Analysis. For a peptide this small, accurate net peptide content is especially worth checking.
Check HPLC purity, mass-spec identity, and net peptide content on the Certificate of Analysis. peptides.com publishes lot-specific lab reports for verification.
