1. Compound Identification
2. What Is Selank?
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide built from the immune-active fragment tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) with an added Pro-Gly-Pro tail that improves its stability. Its sequence is Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, it carries CAS number 129954-34-3, and its molecular formula is C33H57N11O9 with a molecular weight of 751.9 g/mol.
Developed in Russia, Selank is studied as a neuropeptide in behavioral and neurochemical research models. It is supplied as a lyophilized powder for laboratory reconstitution.
3. Research Background
Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Russia as a stable tuftsin analog. A 2008 paper by Sarkisova and colleagues in a Russian neuroscience journal examined its effects on behavior in a genetic model (PubMed 18661785).
More recent work has looked at its effects in dependence and withdrawal models. A 2019 study by Kolik and colleagues in the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine examined Selank against ethanol-induced effects (PubMed 31625062), and a 2022 study in the same journal looked at morphine withdrawal signs (PubMed 36322304). This research is preclinical.
4. Mechanism of Action
In research models, Selank is studied for effects on the balance of neurotransmitters and on expression of genes tied to anxiety-related behavior, including pathways connected to GABA and serotonin systems. As a tuftsin analog it is also studied for effects on immune signaling, reflecting tuftsin’s origin.
This neuropeptide profile places Selank in a different category from the hormone-axis peptides. It is often grouped with Semax as a Russian-developed research neuropeptide. For current findings, search PubMed directly.
5. Storage and Stability
Lyophilized Selank is generally stored at -20°C for long-term holding, with stability reported around 24 months. Refrigeration at 2°C to 8°C suits shorter windows, away from light and moisture.
The lot-specific Certificate of Analysis is the authoritative reference for a given batch.
6. Handling and Solubility Notes (Laboratory Context)
Reconstitution means returning a lyophilized compound to solution. This page gives no preparation procedure: solvent, concentration and handling steps belong to the methodology of the study being reproduced, not to a compound reference. Selank is handled as aqueous-soluble material.
Lyophilized material is hygroscopic, so a sealed container is allowed to reach ambient temperature before it is opened. Solubility and water-content figures for a given lot appear on its Certificate of Analysis.
7. Quality Considerations for Research
Identity and purity of research-grade Selank are established analytically, by HPLC with mass spectrometric confirmation of the expected mass. Verified purity is documented per lot on the Certificate of Analysis.
Check HPLC purity, mass-spec identity, and net peptide content on the Certificate of Analysis. peptides.com publishes lot-specific lab reports for verification.
