1. Compound Identification
2. What Is Tesamorelin?
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). It is built on the full GHRH(1-44) sequence with a trans-3-hexenoyl group added at the N-terminus, a modification that makes the molecule more stable than natural GHRH. It carries CAS number 218949-48-5 and the molecular formula C221H366N72O67S, with a molecular weight near 5135.9 g/mol.
Among the GHRH analogs, tesamorelin is the one with the most developed clinical research record, since it reached approval for a specific medical use. In research settings it is supplied as a lyophilized powder for laboratory reconstitution.
3. Research Background
Tesamorelin was studied in controlled human trials for HIV-associated lipodystrophy. A 2010 study by Falutz and colleagues in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes reported its effects in that population (PubMed 20101189), and a 2012 review by Vantyghem and colleagues placed it in the context of lipodystrophy diagnosis (PubMed 22748602).
Research interest has continued into body composition and hepatic fat, with a 2026 analysis by Badran and colleagues in Obesity Research and Clinical Practice examining those outcomes (PubMed 41545261). Tesamorelin therefore has more human data behind it than most peptides in this encyclopedia, though research framing still applies to material sold for laboratory use.
4. Mechanism of Action
Tesamorelin works at the GHRH receptor on the pituitary, prompting growth hormone release in a pulsatile pattern. Its N-terminal modification slows enzymatic breakdown, giving it a longer working window than natural GHRH or sermorelin.
The downstream rise in growth hormone and IGF-I is the focus of much of its metabolic research, particularly around visceral fat in model and clinical systems. For current work, search PubMed directly.
5. Storage and Stability
Lyophilized tesamorelin is generally stored at -20°C for long-term holding, with stability reported around 24 months under consistent conditions. Refrigeration at 2°C to 8°C suits shorter windows, away from light and moisture.
Larger peptides can be sensitive to freeze-thaw cycling, which is avoided. The lot-specific Certificate of Analysis is the correct reference for a given batch.
6. Handling and Solubility Notes (Laboratory Context)
Reconstitution means returning a lyophilized compound to solution. This page gives no preparation procedure: solvent, concentration and handling steps belong to the methodology of the study being reproduced, not to a compound reference. tesamorelin is handled as aqueous-soluble material.
Lyophilized material is hygroscopic, so a sealed container is allowed to reach ambient temperature before it is opened. Solubility and water-content figures for a given lot appear on its Certificate of Analysis.
7. Quality Considerations for Research
Identity and purity of research-grade tesamorelin are established analytically, by HPLC with mass spectrometric confirmation of the expected mass. Verified purity is documented per lot on the Certificate of Analysis. Because it is a large modified peptide, the COA’s identity confirmation matters.
Check HPLC purity, mass-spec identity, and net peptide content on the Certificate of Analysis. peptides.com publishes lot-specific lab reports for verification.
